Changing the World Through Thought Leadership

The Op-Ed and Social Change

Useful for:

team-building, staff training, staff orientation, program design

culture and values manifestos, guides and manuals, team retreats, change management strategies, program plans

How do we reach a wide audience in a manner that leads to social change? In this workshop, we will focus on the op-ed and how, through this medium, we can engage a wide range of readers through publication in top media outlets. We will explore why what we know matters in the world and how we can use our knowledge and ideas to create change by provoking audiences to consider different points of view. In addition, we will cover some of the practical aspects of placing an op-ed, with an eye toward viral visibility. Some guiding questions will be: What is our expertise and how do we claim it? How do we pitch an idea? How do we write about difficult topics? How can our voice make a difference? How do we share our expertise in a way that transcends our industry? How do we become thought leaders in our company, in our field, and in the world in a way that inspires our colleagues and all who read our work to reach new heights?

Why it’s important:

Being able to influence the actions of others makes greater impact possible.
